Sometimes we get a little carried away when stapling NM Cable. Yes, the winter is not friendly when the cable gets cold, but could you leave a job-site with this supported cable?
This situation is obvious and we would try not to walk away from it. But try to remember when stapling NM Cable, even when we snug the steel staple just a little to tight, we create a future fire hazard. I have seen many homes with fire damage caused by a steel staple that was pressed too tight on the cable sheathing. This traps heat and allows it to work its way onto the steel staple and back to the conductor insulation, which can’t handle it. The conductor itself then arcs and causes a multitude of issues.
Next rough-in job, all you need to do is take special care with how you swing your hammer!
